Well, we have slipped into a new year and my best intentions of doing a few postings went astray. Below find a compilation of postings for the year 2011 that I have done on other forums...
As mentioned in the previous posting, I had retired as The Bubble Wright. However... "I had a relapse !!! I was asked to bring the Renaissance Bubble Machine to the Tinkerer's Ball, an event being held in Baltimore this Friday for a Science Museum Conference sponsored by the Exploratorium in San Francisco and The Maryland Science Center in the Inner Harbor. Of course, the NJ RenFaire was gracious enough to let me borrow the RBM back. Since the Machine will still be in my van, I will bring it to Faire on Saturday for the Bubble Wright's Last Blast on the Shire. Huzzah! Then it gets returned to the NJ RenFaire."
Went to the Flavor Fest, held on the grounds of the PaRenFaire. I posted "And on Saturday, there will be bubbles... LOTS of bubbles. I am bringing one of my battery powered machines that makes bubbles the size of basketballs and fills them with smaller bubbles. No muss, no fuss, just flick the switch and sit back." and "Had a blast today making bubbles... used 5 gallons of bubble soap! And the Queen hugged me and kissed me on the cheek... actually it was Kelly. When she portrayed the Queen, she found the bubbles most amusing and even sent her Guards over on occasion to play in them. She was most enamored of my electric machine and the volume of bubbles it puts out. It is good to be a favorite of the Queen! Huzzah, what a day!"
The 2011 Season at PARF was adversely affected by the weather. The Faire closed early a number of days due to violent rain storms (and a hurricane). There was great sadness when one of the Faire's favorite personages passed away. I wrote "Despite the gorgeous weather at Faire on Sunday, it was a somber day on the Shire of Mt. Hope. Lorraine Sullo, who portrayed the Duchess Sussex, passed away in her sleep Saturday night after leaving Faire in the afternoon not feeling well. Her character as the Duchess was delightfully nasty to both Noble and Peasant alike. Besides being a long time acting fixture at Mt. Hope, Lorraine was also a talented artist who was largely responsible for the look of the Faire from signs, building design and coloration, and layout of the walkways. We shall sorely miss Thee Good Lady... may Angels guide Thee to Thy Rest... Lorraine's Bio on the Blackfryars' Site: www.blackfryars.com/castMember.asp?castI..."
A fitting tribute to the Duchess on YouTube... www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-xBaoc0ugw&feat..."
There was one joyous event on the Shire, a proposal... "In a most wondrous event, Arthur Rowan proposed to Kelly Morris this past Saturday at PARF. Arthur is currently on cast at the Faire and Kelly is much beloved for her 2 year stint as Queen Elizabeth. Best wishes to them both, long life and happiness. Huzzah!
The Proposal >>>> www.youtube.com/watch?v=ci3GPYLdw5Q&sns=..."Unfortunately, the last weekend of the Faire was closed due to 10 inches of heavy wet snow falling on the Saturday which left the grounds and buildings in a shambles. The Season had some wonderful moments, one very sad event, and an ending that left Faire goers without closure.
There is one last item to report... "Back in December of last year I had corresponded with Renaissance Magazine. Tom Hauck, the Editor, was curious about my email handle Dbubbleguy. I sent him info about my bubble making in general and the Renaissance Bubble Machine (RBM for short) in particular. I offered to write an article about the RBM. After 4 complete re-writes, I submitted it in September. I just got word the article has been accepted and will be published in Issue #83 (January 2012). I'm so excited. It will be under a pen name, Torrey Seifenblase (Torrey is my middle name and Seifenblase is German for soap bubble).
Sorry for the mix of letter sizes, but that's what happens when one cuts & pastes on Renspace.

[General]
I have tried to post items after September 2010. Usually I compose them off line, and then cut and paste them into the blog. However, for a period of time the blog would not accept cut and paste. It seems to be working again. Below find a Faire update from last season and then an announcement. Judging by the dearth of postings about PARF this Season, it would appear that nothing is happening there!!! I have missed 2 weekends (went to other Faires) but will be there the remaining four weekends. The Faire seems smaller this year, with a number of previous contract acts not in attendance. The Professional cast is good, as always, and the Blackfryrs have a talented, enthusiastic group. Katherine Campbell has positively blossomed as Queen Elizabeth, with Lee Jordan (Sir Francis Drake) and Taylor Tutt (Sir Walter Raleigh) lending firm support. Josh Rice as Edward De Vere is a stand out hoot. The Chess Game and Joust are not to be missed. Finally, Looney Lucy and Ploppy have a new X Rated show that will leave you in tears. Best of all, the weather has been most cooperative this year with just a little bit of rain but no Faire closing deluges as in previous years. See you at the Faire............ The Bubble Wright Announcement......... I sent the following email to the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire... |
